Now for those that didn't click above the Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously to approve a lease that allows Las Vegas Pro Soccer LLC (name to change obviously) to play matches at Cashman Field starting 2018.
We're gonna unpack all that's happening in pieces as time permits. First up? The venue...
Cashman Field - Cashman is a nearly 10,000 seat facility and currently home to the Las Vegas 51's (AAA) baseball team. We'd be sharing the stadium with them at least for the time being. The 51's have been eyeing Summerlin for a new stadium so if/when they leave we'll have the place all to ourselves.
Location-wise Cashman is certainly not in the shiniest part of town but it is within walking distance of Fremont Street and the great bars and restaurants there. A march to the match from Fremont Street would be 20+ mins. Also, the stadium parking lot is HUGE and one could easily tailgate at the far end of the lot and still have a 10+min march into the stadium. Now we've been tailgating since game one of the Mobsters and are perfectly fine continuing that tradition, but if a ton of people want to hit Downtown for brews and grub than do a march through the streets to Cashman? Well, we can get down with that as well.
As for the field itself things should be just fine. LVPS has stated they will remove and replace the pitcher's mound (which will allow the field to be closer to the stands) as well as lay grass over the infield. And when/if the 51's leave they'll look to add seating (to the sideline facing the outfield wall one would assume). We can just imagine moving that right-field fence in a bit an adding stands. Look at that pic above and tell us that wouldn't be great?
So our venue is locked down and looking good. But what the heck are we gonna call ourselves? And what are we gonna look like?
