Yep, our opening match was canceled. After the torrential rains on Friday the field at Green Valley was basically a moat. IT was going to be a longshot as far as it being ready by gametime but then the severe weather warnings were issued and the City of Henderson and Clark County said nobody would be playing on their facilities with the chances of lightning.
So yeah, it sucked. Though it sucked even more for SF City FC who were set to play there first PDL match and even MORE more for their supporters group the Northsiders. They traveled all the way out here to support their club and they go back unfulfilled. We ended up meeting them at McMullan's (shout out to Mcmullan's for reserving space for a pretty large crowd on such short notice) and enjoyed cocktails and good conversation. Good folks, they were.
Haven't heard yet when the game will be made up but hopefully the Northsiders will be able to make it out again and we can do our thing.
Next match is next Saturday against Albuquerque Sol FC. The Sol are former Mountain Division rivals and also fellow competitors in the gone-but-not-forgotten Copa Frontera. *pours out some liquor for the Copa*
Hopefully some of the Sandianistas, the Sol's supporters group, will be able to make it out and we can make Green Valley an extra good and lively atmosphere. Here's hoping. GO MOBSTERS!!!
