Since we last left you our UNLV Rebels have continued their undefeated ways going 2-0-1 in their last three matches. The wins were against San Jose State (1-0) and Incarnate Word (5-1)  and the draw versus CSU Bakersfield. Links to the official UNLV write-ups of the matches are below:

So at UNLV''s fabulous (and FREE) tailgate this past Sunday, in the midst of our enjoyment of fabulous food and drink-stuffs we see a sign posted in our section. A sign that wasn't there the previous match. This is that sign:

Apparently the mother of (won't say the team's name but it rhymes with Fakersbield) keeper did not take too kindly the friendly, in-good-fun banter directed at her baby boy. And another chant that *may* (read: did) contain an f-bomb rankled some other soccer moms during the match. Hence the lovely sign.

Now, we are in no way an "ultras" group. We are definitely more about the supporting of our teams then the abusing of the opposition. Do we try to throw the opposing keeper off his game? Yep. Will the occasional word you don't hear on TV slip out of someone's mouth during the course of a match? It is certainly possible. But compared to what's out there we are PG-13 at worst.  It does tickle us that this sign was made, though.

On another note, the Mobsters have announced Green Valley High School to be their home field for the 2016 season. It's an all-grass field (which the boys will love), soccer-specific (no gridiron lines or running track) and the seats will be right on top of the action.  Sounds like nothing but win to us!

Last two Rebels home games are this Friday and Sunday. Get on out there and let's keep supporting Las Vegas soccer!

Highs and lows..

Was a bittersweet weekend at Peter Johann Field this past weekend as the Rebels continued their winning streak (Friday) then ended it (Saturday).

Friday's match had a near-full-house and lively atmosphere which the Rebs used to their advantage in a 2-1 victory over Houston Baptist.

Rodrigo Fuentes got UNLV on the board early with a Bradley Kamdem-assisted goal in the 12th minute. They continued to keep the majority of possession in the first half but the second 45 saw the Huskies tie things up in the 52nd minute. Play evened out for a bit till the Rebels started ramping up the attack in the fnal twenty minutes and finally got the go-ahead score in the 86th minute when Danny Musovski took a ball in the box from Oscar Velasquez, headed the ball downward into goal which the Huskies keeper stopped but was behind the line when he did. Not the prettiest but it still counts for Musovski's 6th goal of the season and a Rebels victory.

Supporting-wise it was a fun night. We were not 100% full-force Mob Squad-wise but there was a great group of students who were rolling with us so it was a nice atmosphere.

Sunday's game vs UTRGV was a bit quieter (though the Mob Squad were of course bringing the noise) attendance as well as action-wise, as the Rebs win streak ended at 7 with a 0-1 defeat at the hands of the Vaqueros.

The boys just couldn't seem to get anything going in the first half and fell behind after a UTRGV corner kick produced a loose ball that UTRGV put in the back of the net. Second half saw the Rebs a bit more lively with nine shots taken (three on goal) but they just weren't able to convert.  Tough loss but the Vaqueros seemed to be playing for 0-0 from the start and once they got their fluke goal doubled down on their bunkering down.

Supporting-wise it was fun as always. We were almost at full-strength so we did pretty good especially considering the rest of the stadium was not noisy at all.

Also, we can not say enough great things about the free tailgate the UNLV Alumni guys have been putting together all season. They're outdoing themselves each week. We've said it before but if you haven't done so already you owe it to yourself to check it out. And throw a lil something in the donation jar, cuz  a) we can drink and b) I know we're not cheap to feed.
