The Mobster's final record for the year is 5W 6L & 3D with a goal differential of zero for a total of 18 pts. Compare this to last year's record of 4W 9L 1D with a GD of -14 for a total of 13 pts and you can see there was a marked improvement over the inaugural season, particularly defensively.
Twelve different players got on the scoresheet as well showing the variety in the Mobster's attack. Craig Carney and Lucas Cawley led the club in scoring with 4 and 3 goals respectively with Oscar Velazquez topping the assist list with 2.
Hector Casillas came in about halfway through the season to become the starting GK and he did a heck of a job recording 2 shutouts, 34 saves and a 1.142 goals-against average.
Overall, with maybe one or two exceptions the boys were in every single game and were a much better team than the record reflects. A couple lucky bounces and they're sitting comfortably in second place and the playoffs. But that's soccer for ya.
The crowds weren't as good this year compared to 2014. There was a lot of bouncing around from field to field and we realize that can make things difficult but at the end of the day we need more folks showing up. It is imperative that we SUPPORT THIS TEAM next season. No bigger league is going to give Las Vegas a shot if we don't care about what we already have. So going to Mobsters matches (UNLV Rebels games as well) is vitally important. We can make Las Vegas a legitimate and important soccer community but we all need to be doing this together. Let's make it happen!
As for the Mob Squad, we added some great people to the ranks this season. We're always hungry for more though so when the Rebels soccer season starts in late August be sure come on down to UNLV, see what we're about and help us grow this beautiful game here in Las Vegas.
